What is Veri*Factu?
Veri*Factu is a verifiable billing system compulsory in Spain to be implemented gradually until 1 July 2027. It aims to increase tax transparency and reduce fraud by automatically transmitting invoices to the Tax Agency for verification in real time. The invoicing software shall comply with the Verifactu Regulation, and shall include a QR code which will allow customers to verify the validity of the invoice.
How does it work?
- Invoicing programmes must include a QR code on tax and simplified invoices that links directly to the AEAT.
- The QR code contains basic information about the invoice, such as the issuer's VAT number, series, number, date and amount.
- By scanning the QR, the customer can check whether the invoice has been reported to the tax office.
- A HASH code is generated and stored with the invoice to ensure its integrity.
Who must comply and when?
The adaptation of invoicing programmes is staggered:
- Invoicing programmesDeadline 29 July 2025.
- Entities subject to corporation taxDeadline 1 January 2027.
- Other companies and self-employedDeadline 1 July 2027.
